After You Apply

You submitted your application. Here is what happens next.

Step 1 — FSSA Reviews Your Application

FSSA has up to 45 days to make a decision. If your case involves a disability determination, they may need up to 90 days.

FSSA may contact you to ask for more documents. Respond quickly — delays on your end can slow the process.

Step 2 — You Get a Notice in the Mail

FSSA will mail you a letter with their decision. It will say whether you were approved or denied. Keep this letter.

Step 3 — If Approved

Your coverage usually starts on the first day of the month you applied.

You will receive a Medicaid ID card in the mail from your health plan (MCO). You will also need to choose or be assigned a primary care doctor.
