Transportation

Who Drives?

If you have Indiana Medicaid and cannot get to a medical appointment on your own, you may be able to get a free ride. This is called Non-Emergency Medical Transportation, or NEMT.

Who Can Get a Ride

NEMT is available to Indiana Medicaid members who do not have a car, cannot afford transportation, or have a medical condition that makes it hard to use public transit.

Rides are for medical appointments only — doctor visits, therapy, dental care, lab tests, pharmacy pickup, and similar.

How to Schedule a Ride

Call your Medicaid health plan’s member services number (on the back of your ID card):

  • Anthem: 800-418-6337
  • CareSource: 844-607-2831
  • MHS (Managed Health Services): 877-647-4848

Confirm these numbers with your ID card — they can change.

Schedule Ahead

Request your ride at least 2 business days before your appointment. Give the scheduler:

  • Your name and Medicaid ID number
  • The appointment date, time, and address
  • Your pickup address
  • Any special needs (wheelchair, stretcher, etc.)

Types of Rides

  • Volunteer driver — a community volunteer takes you
  • Bus pass or taxi voucher — if public transit is available in your area
  • Mileage reimbursement — if a friend or family member drives you
  • Wheelchair van or medical transport — for members who need special equipment
