Kids & Families

Hoosier Healthwise

Hoosier Healthwise (HHW) is Indiana’s Medicaid program for children under 19, pregnant women, and some families. It covers a wide range of health services at little or no cost.

Who It Covers

  • Children under 19 in families earning up to 200% FPL
  • Pregnant individuals earning up to 200% FPL
  • Parents and caregivers in very low-income households with children
  • Newborns — automatically enrolled for one year if the mother has Medicaid

Children in families with the lowest incomes pay nothing. Families with slightly higher incomes pay a small monthly premium (usually $1–5 per child).

What It Covers

  • Well-child checkups and immunizations
  • Doctor and specialist visits
  • Dental care (cleanings, fillings, extractions)
  • Vision care and eyeglasses
  • Prescription drugs
  • Hospital stays
  • Mental health and behavioral health services
  • Speech, occupational, and physical therapy
  • Emergency care

Choosing a Health Plan

Managed Care Organizations (MCOs)

Once enrolled, your child chooses — or is assigned — one of Indiana’s Medicaid health plans (effective January 1, 2026):

  • Anthem (Healthy Indiana)
  • CareSource
  • MHS (Managed Health Services)

You can switch plans within 90 days of enrollment or once per year during open enrollment (November 1 – December 15).
