What If Approved?

Congratulations. Here is what to do in your first days of coverage.

1. Wait for Your Medicaid ID Card

Your health plan (MCO) will mail you a Medicaid ID card. Bring it to every appointment. If your card does not arrive within two weeks, call FSSA at 800-403-0864.

2. Choose a Primary Care Doctor

Your MCO will assign you a primary care doctor (PCP) if you do not choose one. You can change your PCP by calling your MCO.

3. Know Your Plan

You will receive a welcome packet from your MCO explaining your benefits, co-pays, and how to get care. Read it — especially the section on when to call your PCP vs. going to urgent care or the ER.

For HIP members, review your POWER account information.

4. Schedule Preventive Care

Once you have a PCP, schedule a well-care visit. Preventive checkups are fully covered and can catch problems early.

5. Report Changes

If your income, household size, address, or other circumstances change, report them to FSSA.
